The Coalition of Black Excellence  (“CBE”) values our attendees, participants, sponsors, and supporters and respects their privacy. This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains how we collect, use, or otherwise handle the personal information entrusted to us.

This Privacy Policy covers all of our operations: organizing events, managing relationships with our attendees, members, volunteers, donors, and supporters, and the use of our websites, cbenonprofit.org, cbeweek.com, and other CBE hosted or managed microsites (collectively, the “Website”).

What Personal Information Do We Collect and Use?

Who Do We Collect Information From?

  • CBE collects and processes information about our volunteers, speakers, and attendees of our events, donors, supporters and others who provide information to us.
  • We collect this information (1) directly from you when you voluntarily submit information to us; and (2) automatically on our Website through web analytics tools and cookies.

Information You Voluntarily Submit to CBE

  • In most cases, we collect the information you voluntarily provide directly from you.  For example, you may voluntarily submit information to the Website by leaving a comment, subscribing to a newsletter, submitting a contact form, registering for a group, or registering for an event.
  • We collect and process names, professional affiliation, contact details, short biographies, resumes, photos (including headshots and other photos and images captured at our events), travel information for some event speakers, and payment information for reimbursements and from individual donors, and communications provided to us via email and through cbeweek.com.

Information We Automatically Collect Through Our Website

We also have access to some personal information of the users that access our websites.
  • Automatically-Collected Information: The Website automatically collects certain information about you and the device with which you access the Website. For example, when you use the Website, The Website will log your IP address, operating system type, browser type, referring website, pages you viewed, and the dates/times when you accessed the Website. The Website may also collect information about actions you take when using the Website, such as links clicked.
  • Cookies: The Website may log information using cookies, which are small data files stored on your browser by the Website. The Website may use both session cookies, which expire when you close your browser, and persistent cookies, which stay on your browser until deleted, to provide you with a more personalized experience on the Website.

CBE may use the information we collect about you in the following ways:

Information You Voluntarily Submit to CBE

  • We use this personal information to send you communications related to our work, invitations for events or to facilitate your participation to our volunteer opportunities, working groups, conferences, and other events. We also use the information to respond to your comments or inquiries.

  • We use the information we collect through our website to understand and improve our website, and customize your user experience.

  • The Website uses cookies to store our visitors’ preferences, record user-specific information on what pages users access or visit, ensure that visitors are not repeatedly sent the same banner ads, customize content based on visitors’ browser type or other information that the visitor sends. Cookies may also be used by third-party services. You can control what cookies you allow via the settings of your web browser (Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Brave).

Third-Party Use Of Personal Information

Sometimes we share your information with our partners. This happens when we co-organize events, panels, or engage in initiatives jointly with other entities. The information we share is limited to name, affiliation and contact information, and it may include biographic information.

We also share your information to third parties that are our vendors and process personal information on our behalf and for no other purposes.

We use:
  • an email delivery service,
  • an email and virtual common workplace service provider,
  • a provider of cloud services,
  • a Customer Relationship Management service provider,
  • an online registration service provider (for participation to events we organize).

How Long Do We Retain Your Data?

We only keep your data for as long as you want to hear from us and stay connected to our work. This period of time varies, so we can’t give you a precise number. As a rule, if you sign up to receive news and updates about CBE, we will continue sending updates until you opt out. In these cases, we will proceed by erasing your email address from our database. If you are a registrant for one of our events, we are storing your name and contact details to send you notice of future events, unless you instruct us at registration not to do so.

 

How Can I Access, Update, or Delete My Information?  

If you want to check with us about whether we have your personal information and what personal information we have about you, if you want to correct or update your information, or even if you want us to erase your contact details, send us an e-mail at info@cbenonprofit.org.

Children’s Information

The Website does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children under the age of 16. If a parent or guardian believes that the Website has personally identifiable information of a child under the age of 16, please contact us immediately at info@cbenonprofit.org and we will use our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.
